Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Wakefield | West Yorkshire

Published: 5 June 2017

Problem:

Ms Gibson was an older lady who was concerned about her well-being and safety in her existing bathroom due to ongoing issues with her back.

These concerns were made worse as a result of struggling with the existing fixtures and fittings, particularly with regards to being able to get in and out of the bath with comfort and stability.

Although there was a clear need for a safer and more easily accessible solution the bathroom itself was in need of a little TLC. Old and tired in design the existing suite was neither aesthetically pleasing nor fit for purpose.

Solution:

Having come initially recommended from a friend who had previously had works done Ms Gibson made her way to our mobility bathroom showroom in Leeds to get a feel for our services and discuss what solutions we had available, and therefore could offer her prior to booking an appointment.

Greeted by Nigel, More Ability Surveyor & Designer, the pair spent a good amount of time discussing her personal wants, needs and requirements with regards to her bathing problems and what we could do to help overcome them.

With a fair selection of fully functioning bays Ms Gibson was able to make a decision on what style and particular showering solution she would like in her bathroom but was concerned, due to the small and awkward shape, whether it was feasible and if so, whether it would be functional in use. As a result an appointment was arranged for Nigel to visit her at home where he would investigate the existing bathroom further with an aim of being able to provide Ms Gibson with what she really wanted in terms of design, and most importantly needed with regards to use.

Outcome:

An unsafe, small and awkwardly shaped bathroom, as a result of an intruding chimney breast was transformed into a stylish & accessible wet floor shower solution that catered for Ms Gibson’s wants, needs and personal design preferences. Although nothing could be done with regards moving the chimney breast the room was opened up with regards to space, thanks to the design & installation of an attractive wet floor shower area which detailed corian bench. New sanitaryware was also supplied and fitted along with wall boarding to the walls and anti-slip vinyl to the floor making the new safe & stylish suite easy to maintain thanks to an ‘unbroken’ finish.

What Ms Gibson said about more ability:

“The approach of the whole company is efficient and professional.

The two young men, Sam & Steve, who were the fitters were professional, reliable, helpful and polite. They cleaned every night before leaving and were an absolute pleasure to have in my home. I also appreciate, and found it unusual but nice, not to be pressured into paying up front. I would certainly recommend.”
