Level-Access Shower | Harrogate | More Ability
Published: 20 September 2024
Background
Mr. and Mrs. Fox were referred to us by previous clients and visited our Harrogate Showroom to explore how to make their existing en-suite future-proofed and more accessible prior to booking a design appointment.
Accessible Bathroom Design
Initially, Mr & Mrs Fox were unsure whether to simply remove the bath and install a level-access shower, or to carry out a full renovation due to the lack of storage and dated appearance.
Our Senior Designer, Simon, visited the property to discuss options and take measurements. After reviewing the space and discussing the options available to them a decision was made to rip everything out and start again from scratch with a full design and fit renovation.
Simon designed a layout that maximised the room’s awkward shape by relocating the WC and proposing a corner concept. This design opened up the available space while making the room feel bigger as a result of utilising the corners, which are typically deemed as ‘dead space’.
The project involved removing the bath and installing a full-length slip-resistant level-access shower tray, complemented by a glass screen. Simon incorporated a bespoke Corian bench for comfort and accessibility within the shower area. To meet the couple’s storage needs, a wall-hung vanity basin unit was included, which further maximised floor space by creating an illusion of a larger room.
The room was tiled in a modern grey finish, with a feature wall blending plain and textured tiles to add a striking visual element. A slip-resistant tile was used for the flooring to ensure safety.
Chrome fixtures, including a rainfall head shower and a chrome lever basin mixer tap, provided the perfect accessible finishing touches, combining style and practicality. An anthracite towel rail was also installed for heating, matching the contemporary design.
Accessible Bathroom Installation
With expert guidance from Simon, seamless project management from Joe, and flawless installation by Arran, Mr. and Mrs. Fox now have an en-suite that perfectly suits their lifestyle.
The room’s awkward shape presented a design challenge, but Simon’s layout adjustments, including relocating the WC and integrating wall-hung units, helped optimise space and improve the room’s overall functionality.
The completed bathroom is both accessible and stylish, providing Mr. and Mrs. Fox with a modern, future-proof space they can enjoy for years to come. The sleek design meets their mobility needs while ensuring the room remains light and spacious.
This project showcases how a well-thought-out design can transform a dated, awkward en-suite into a modern, functional space that meets both aesthetic and practical needs.
"Right from the start, we were treated with very pleasant and helpful people that listened and helped us with all aspects of our new bathroom, which on completion is amazing. Thank you, everyone."
