Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 9 June 2020

Problem:

After suffering from a fall in the bath, Mrs Garbutt wanted to find a safe bathing solution that would help her to regain confidence and independence within her bathroom.

Mrs Garbutt wanted to add safety measures to her 3 piece suite that consisted of a bath, toilet and basin, whilst still keeping a modern non-clinical looking design. She required a multi-generational design that would be suitable for her and her son Mr Garbutt who also lived within the home.

Solution:

Upon visiting our Leeds Showroom with her son and gathering more information on the bathing solutions, Mrs Garbutt decided to book a design appointment, for Senior Designer Nigel to visit their home and further discuss their bathroom requirements in more detail.

Taking on board Mrs Garbutt’s design wants and safety needs, Nigel created a moderndesign that included an accessible wet floor shower that would replace the bath. With a built in fold away shower seat, the accessible wet floor shower also consisted of a toughened glass flipper screen, toconceal water within the shower area whist keeping the shower open and accessible.

Following the home visit Mrs Garbutt and her son revisited our bathroom showroom in Leeds, with the assistance of Nigel, to finalise their accessible bathroom design and pick their final choices.

Deciding to keep the existing toilet and basin while preserving 3 of the 4 walls of tiling the new design featured complimentary wall boards in the wet area. Grey anti-slip vinyl flooring was incorporated to help to eliminate the risks of slips and falls while pipe work was also moved from a boxed area on the wall to under the floor, creating extra space within the room.

Outcome:

Mrs Garbutt’s bathroom was transformed into a modern multi-generational accessible wet floor shower that delivered the aesthetical and safety requirements by all who were to use it.

The new open space created improved accessibility and prevented the need for Mrs Garbutt to climb in and out of the bath, helping her to regain independence and peace of mind when bathing.

What Mr Garbutt said about More Ability:

"Had to replace our bath with a shower following my mum's fall. The lady at the showroom (one Sunday lunchtime) was brilliant. She knew exactly what we needed and was the only one to mention being VAT exempt. We were lucky enough to be assigned Stephen as our Fitter. He is brilliant, very professional and great attention to detail. The result is a safe new bathroom that would not look out of place in any top hotel."
