Problem

Mrs Bleiker had recently been finding it challenging to use her bathroom and shower room after a recent change in her mobility needs.

Both rooms were traditionally designed.

Mrs. Bleiker and her daughter Tanya wanted to renovate the bathroom or shower room to a design that would make her bathing life easier by ensuring her safety, and retention of independence.

They both set out to find experts in the bathroom industry who could make adaptations to either the bathroom or shower room.

Solution

In addition to finding experts, they wanted an organisation that offers a design and fitting service.

Browsing online they came across our More Ability brand and enquired to be scheduled for a free design appointment.

Our Sales Administrator team leader Rachel contacted Tanya to gather more information and see if we could meet their requirements.

Tanya explained that Mrs. Bleiker required an adapted bathroom, having recently struggled with the existing designs within her home.

They wanted their advice in creating a new design, helping them decide which room is the most suitable to renovate and offer project management services.

Noting this Rachel explained that we had a team of experts that could help design, project manage, and install an adapted bathroom. She also broke down the process of our full design and fit service and the history of the More Ability and Passmore Group.

Happy with the information she was provided, Rachel scheduled a design appointment for Tanya and Mrs Bleiker.

Our experienced designer Simon visited Mrs Bleiker’s home and went around the bathroom and shower room taking measurements, noting the placement of the key features and the plumbing layout.

Up next was the discussion around the possibilities for the new design.

Mrs. Bleiker and Tanya explained that after a change in Mrs. Bleiker’s mobility requirements, they wanted to create an adapted bathroom.

Their initial ideas included installing a walk-in bath, as Mrs. Bleiker enjoyed a soak They also wanted to keep to the traditional style for the new concept.

Aside from that they were open to ideas and wanted Simon to impart expert knowledge in bathroom design and create a new concept that incorporates their ideas to meet the needs and requirements of Mrs Bleiker.

Simon listened to their ideas and suggested an accessible wet floor shower design, he thought that considering her needs a future-proofed design, with a Corian bench, anti-slip vinyl flooring would accommodate Mrs Bleiker perfectly. The design would reduce the risk of accidents, ensure her safety, and provide a positive bathing experience.

The Corian bench was included to provide an option to sit in the showering area.

To further portray his ideas Simon sketched his proposed design to paint a picture for Mrs. Bleiker and Tanya.

Simon behind the design:-

Mrs. Bleiker and her daughter were clear in wanting an adapted bathroom. However, were unsure what would be the best solution, would be moving forward.

My suggestion was to create a future-proofed design that would not only meet her requirements, but it would also accommodate other users.

The design matched style traditional style preferences.

They were both happy with the design layout and Simon invited them for a CAD presentation at our Harrogate bathroom showroom.

During the presentation, he showed them various images of CADs to help them envision the new wet room finish from different angles of the room.

Happy with the presentation, they wanted to proceed, and Simon took them around the showroom to pick their final touches of the new design, once they had made their choices they placed an order.

They were given an installation date for the new design and visited by our bathroom designer Joe who would liaise with them and the fitter throughout the project.

Traditional accessible wet floor shower refurbishment | Harrogate

Our fitter Ben Senior ripped the design and replaced the floor with a smooth grey anti-slip vinyl flooring.

Replacing the traditional bath was an accessible wet floor shower entry. On the inside of the new shower, a Corian bench was fit, providing Mrs Bleiker a place to sit, and enhancing the overall showering experience.

Stone marble effect accessible wall boards fit inside the shower area and around the new Corian bench, for a seamless cohesive design matching the overall grey bathroom design.

A niche was fit giving a place for Mrs. Bleiker to put her shower accessories, and next to the niche a slide rail shower, allowing an adjustment of the shower to the user's preference.

Completing the shower area, handrails were installed reducing the risk of a fall.

Keeping in line with the overall home design, the traditional WC and basin remained from the previous design, to further enhance the traditional outlook of the newly refurbished accessible wet floor shower.
