Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire
Published: 7 December 2020
Problem
Mr. & Mrs. Brown’s simple and dated white and blue bathroom consisted of a bath with overhead shower, basin and WC.
With Mrs. Brown beginning to struggle with mobility they wanted an accessible showering solution that didn’t have a clinical look. They also hoped to use some of the space within their suite to create additional storage for easy access to their bathroom amenities.
Design Solution
In search for further information on Accessible Bathrooms Mr. & Mrs. Brown visited our Leeds Disabled Bathroom Showroom to view our extensive range of showering solutions and our Harrogate Accessible Bathroom Showroom to view our wash and dry toilets.
Open to design ideas, Mr. & Mrs. Brown were greeted by More Ability Senior Designer Andy who discussed with them their bathroom design wants and mobility requirements.
Following the showroom visits and initial discussion with Andy Mr. & Mrs. Brown booked a free design appointment for him to visit their property and survey their suite, allowing him to provide further accessible bathroom design advice and a provisional quote subject to sanitary ware and finishing touches choices.
Using his extensive bathroom knowledge and expertise Andy created a modern accessible wet floor shower design.
Andy invited Mr. & Mrs. Brown to revisit our Leeds Disabled Bathroom Showroom to present them with a visual CAD of their new spacious shower suite, allowing them to envision the new look of their modern shower room. Andy also assisted Mr. and Mrs. Brown with selecting their final fixtures and fittings.
Accessible wet floor shower Installation
A spacious and adaptable accessible wet floor shower with bespoke built in Corian bench was installed by More Ability Multi-Skilled fitter Richard, giving the option for Mr. & Mrs. Brown to relax and rest their legs whilst in the shower.
The accessible wet floor shower also consisted of a fold away flipper screen that stopped water from splashing around the room and allowed Mrs. Brown to get direct access to basin area from the shower without walking around the screen.
Other accessible sanitary ware options included installation of a wash and dry toilet providing Mr. & Mrs. Brown with the option to clean their intimate areas after using the toilet with a water and air facility from the touch of a button.
Floor and wall coverings included modern grey slip resistant tiles and marble effect ceramic wall tiles giving the suite a luxurious feel.
Savvy accessible bathroom storage was fitted under the basin giving Mr. & Mrs. a large area to store all of their bathroom amenities.
Finishing touches included installation of a large mirror to help bounce light around the room, adding to the spacious feel of the suite. A sleek curved grab rail was also added to provide additional mobility support to Mrs. Brown if needed, helping to further future proof the suite
Outcome
Mr. & Mrs. Brown’s dated and difficult to use suite was transformed into a spacious and modern accessible wet floor shower suite.
The new future proofed suite consisted of additional safety features and savvy storage solutions without compromising on design.
